A little luck
for your Windows
desktop.

Hang a lucky charm above your Windows apps. Drag it, flick it, and watch it swing. Start free with an evil eye, a lucky cat, and a four-leaf clover.

Get it fromMicrosoft

Free to install. Three free charms. Optional paid collections.

That charm up there is live. Drag it · flick it · tap it to bless

It hangs over everything.
It gets in the way of nothing.

An always-on-top overlay usually means an always-in-the-way overlay. Luckycharms works out where the charm and its rope actually are and shapes its own window to match, so it stops taking clicks anywhere else. Clicks land on whatever is underneath.

Try it below: click the empty space and you hit the window behind. Click the charm and you catch it.

  • No taskbar button, no alt-tab entry
  • Spans every monitor you have
  • Stays out of the way of fullscreen apps and games

Click anywhere in the mock window

One minute, with sound: pull the rope, pick a charm, use the tray menu, and see it step aside for full screen.

Forty-one charms, each from somewhere

Every charm carries the place it comes from, what it is for, and the gesture that goes with it. Pick one and it swaps on the rope at the top of this page, cord and beads and all.

Hanging a charm re-themes its suspension from the material list: bead colours come from the named materials, while Anime characters switch to slimmer multicolour braids and weapon-inspired fittings.

Some charms do something particular

Most charms pulse and scatter light when blessed. Four of them do something that belongs only to them. These are running the real animations. Press one.

Two ways in, and no window in your way

There is no main window and no taskbar button. Everything happens either on the charm itself or in the notification area.

Right-click the charm

The charm picker

Right-clicking the hanging charm opens a gallery of all forty-one, each with where it comes from and what it is for. Pick one and it swaps immediately. The last card is where you add a picture of your own.

Press Esc to close it without choosing.

Click the tray icon

The notification area

The tray icon holds the things that are not about which charm you want. Double-clicking it performs the ritual without opening anything.

This menu is live. Try it.

Or hang something of your own

Part of Pro in the Windows app. Free to try here, as much as you like.

Point it at any picture. The background is cut away, the subject is cropped to fit, and the cord retints itself to the strongest colour it finds in your image.

Try a photo, a pet, or your own artwork. Adjust the cut-out if you need to, then preview it on the rope. Your image stays on your device. Background removal happens in your browser, without uploading the picture.

Any image works. A PNG gives the best result, because it can already carry a transparent edge, so there is less for the cut-out to guess at. A photo with a plain, even background is the next best thing.

Questions worth answering first

Can I install Luckycharms on my phone?

Luckycharms is a Windows desktop app for Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. You can try the live charm on this page using your phone. To install the app later, use “Email me the PC link” or copy the Microsoft Store link and open it on your Windows PC.

Will it get in the way of what I am doing?

No. The window takes its shape from the rope and the charm, so outside those few pixels it is not there at all. Clicks, drags and hovers land on whatever is underneath. It also hides itself when something goes fullscreen, so films and games are untouched.

Is it safe to install?

Every package the Microsoft Store ships is signed by Microsoft and vetted before it is listed, so installing Luckycharms never puts you through the “Unknown Publisher” dialog or a SmartScreen reputation warning. Windows installs it, tracks it, and removes it cleanly, the same way it handles any other Store app.

What the app itself does, and does not do:

  • Strictly offline: The application makes zero network connections, has no analytics or tracking, and transmits no user data.
  • Zero admin privileges: Runs entirely in your standard user account without requiring administrator rights or system modifications.
  • Nothing machine-wide: Settings, the link handler and the launch-at-sign-in entry are all per-user, and all installed and removed by Windows itself.
How do I change which charm is hanging?

Right-click the charm itself. That opens the picker with all forty-one. The tray icon handles the rest: the ritual, launching at sign-in, and quitting.

How do I remove it?

Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find Luckycharms, and choose Uninstall, or right-click it in the Start menu. Because it installs as a Store package, Windows takes the whole thing with it: the app, your settings under %LOCALAPPDATA%, the luckydangle:// handler, and the launch-at-sign-in entry. There is nothing to clean up by hand and nothing left in the registry.

Is it going to eat my battery?

The simulation stops when the rope stops. Once the charm settles, there is zero CPU activity until you touch it, scroll past it, or trigger a ritual. It also suspends rendering and hides itself automatically when fullscreen apps or games are active.

What about multiple monitors?

The overlay spans the whole virtual desktop rather than one screen, and the charm hangs near the right-hand edge of it.

Can I hang a picture of my own?

Yes. The last card in the picker takes any PNG, JPEG or WebP. The background is removed and the subject cropped on your own machine, and the cord retints itself to the strongest colour in the image. You can try that exact process further up this page; it runs the same algorithm.

In the Windows app this is part of Pro. On this page it is free, so try it on as many pictures as you like before deciding.

What does it cost?

The app is free. Installing it costs nothing, and three charms stay free for good: the Nazar Boncuğu, the Maneki-Neko and the Four-Leaf Clover.

Beyond that, the Windows app offers two subscriptions. Pro unlocks the blessings, the rest of the collection, and hanging a picture of your own. Premium unlocks everything Pro does not, the full anime cast and the Pup Cottage, on top of everything Pro includes. Both are monthly, optional, and cancelled from Store settings like any other subscription.

Pricing is set by the Microsoft Store and shown in your own currency when you open the subscribe sheet in the app or the Store listing. This site does not quote a figure, and it never sees a card field or runs a checkout of its own.

Everything on this page is free to play with either way. Hang any charm on the rope above, from any of the three shelves, as often as you like.

No internet permission

Luckycharms operates completely offline and makes zero network calls. The only IPC channel it opens is a local named pipe to coordinate single-instance status. No in-app account, no background telemetry, and no external tracking.

Installs and updates itself

The Store puts it in place and keeps it current. It carries its own runtime, so there is nothing to fetch alongside it and zero third-party packages inside it.

Considerate

Pauses when the screen is off, hides in fullscreen apps, and parks itself entirely once the rope stops moving.

Put one on your desktop

Get Luckycharms from the Microsoft Store on your Windows 10 or 11 PC. The Store handles installation and keeps the app up to date.

Three charms are free. Pro adds more charms and your own pictures; Premium adds the anime collection and the Pup Cottage. Both are optional monthly Microsoft Store subscriptions. View prices in your own currency in the app, and manage or cancel in Store settings.

  1. Open the Store listing and get it. Windows installs it for you, so there is no file to fetch and no SmartScreen prompt, because the Store signs every package it ships.
  2. Look up. Your charm is hanging in the top-right. Right-click it to pick a different one; the tray icon holds everything else.
